Areas of Focus
People come to counseling for many different reasons. Sometimes there is a specific experience or concern that brings you in. Other times, you may recognize patterns in your emotions, relationships, or behaviors that you want to better understand and change.
Below are some of the areas I commonly work with in counseling.
Trauma & Childhood Experiences
Experiences from childhood, family relationships, or other difficult seasons of life can continue to affect us long after they have passed. You may notice this in the way you respond to conflict, experience emotions, view yourself, trust others, or navigate relationships.
Counseling can provide a place to understand how these experiences may still be affecting you, process what has been difficult to move through, and work toward healthier patterns in the present.

Sex, Love & Pornography Addiction
Compulsive sexual and relationship behaviors can become difficult to manage and may be accompanied by secrecy, shame, guilt, or a sense of being out of control. This can include concerns related to pornography, compulsive sexual behavior, sex and love addiction, or repeatedly turning to relationships, attention, fantasy, or sexual behavior in ways that create distress.
These are deeply personal concerns, and you do not have to have everything figured out before talking about them. Counseling provides a compassionate, nonjudgmental place to understand what is driving the pattern and work toward meaningful and lasting change.

Limerence & Obsessive Relationship Patterns
Sometimes an attraction or relationship can begin to occupy an overwhelming amount of mental and emotional space. You may find yourself repeatedly thinking about someone, analyzing interactions, fantasizing about a future together, seeking reassurance or contact, or struggling to let go even when you recognize that the relationship is unavailable, unhealthy, or not what you want for yourself.
Counseling can help you understand what may be underneath the intensity, recognize patterns that keep the cycle going, and begin developing healthier ways of relating to yourself and others.

Relationships, Boundaries & Codependency
Relationships can bring some of our deepest patterns to the surface. You may have difficulty saying no, feel responsible for other people's emotions, put your own needs aside to maintain a relationship, struggle with people pleasing, or find yourself repeating similar relationship dynamics despite wanting something different.
Together, we can explore where these patterns developed and work toward healthier boundaries, communication, connection, and relationships.
Compulsive & Emotional Eating
Food can sometimes become a way of coping with emotions, stress, loneliness, shame, or experiences that feel difficult to manage. You may find yourself eating when you are not physically hungry, feeling out of control around food, or becoming caught in cycles of restriction, overeating, guilt, and starting over.
Counseling can help explore what is happening beneath the behavior, develop greater awareness of emotional and relational patterns, and work toward a healthier relationship with yourself and food.
Anxiety, Depression & Emotional Overwhelm
You do not need to fit neatly into one category to benefit from counseling. You may be experiencing anxiety, depression, shame, low self worth, difficulty regulating emotions, or simply feeling overwhelmed or stuck.
Sometimes these concerns occur on their own, and sometimes they are connected to experiences or patterns that have developed over time. Counseling gives us space to understand what is contributing to what you are experiencing and identify ways to move toward meaningful change.
Life Transitions
Change can be difficult even when it is something we have chosen or looked forward to. Changes in relationships, family, career, identity, faith, or other areas of life can leave you feeling uncertain about what comes next.
Counseling can provide support as you navigate change, make sense of what you are experiencing, and determine what you want moving forward.

Taking the Next Step
You do not need to fit into one of these areas. We can talk about what has been happening, what you would like to be different, and whether I may be a good fit for what you are looking for. I offer a free 15 minute consultation if you would like to connect and discuss what you've been experiencing further.
